People attending this Saturday’s farmers market are being encouraged to have their pictures taken and to share how they feel about the Bristol Farmers Market as part of a week-long national celebration of farmers market, according to a release from the city’s marketing department.
The photos and sentiments will be shared on social media. Participants will receive a free reusable shopping bag.
The effort is part of the National Farmers Market Week annual celebration. This year’s theme celebrates the essential role farmers markets have played against the backdrop of the pandemic the country is now experiencing.
The Bristol Farmers Market is held rain or shine every Saturday through October from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centre Square across from City Hall.
Up to 20 vendors participate each week. It is not unusual for over 1,000 shoppers to show up any given Saturday.
Among the products sold are fresh vegetables, fruits and products from local farms; hand-made beef jerky; baked goods, coffee, maple syrup, all natural pet food, plant-based organic farm snacks, and fresh seafood.
Food trucks offer BBQ and freshly-made donuts.
All participants, vendors and shoppers, follow safety protocols, with frequent hand washing, for instance, shoppers are greeted at the entrance to the market with offers of free hand sanitizers; directional arrows that reinforce one-way pedestrian traffic; social distancing; and mask wearing.
The City of Bristol Farmers Market is recognized by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, so that payment vouchers from the Women, Infants, and Children Farmers Market Nutrition Program and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program are accepted.
All participating farms are certified by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.
