City accepting applications for Police Officer testing

The City of Bristol is announcing that they are in the process of filling openings for police officers in the department. Here is the full press release:

The City of Bristol is accepting applications for entry-level Police Officers to create an eligibility list to fill future vacancies.

Applicants must be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma (or GED) and be a U.S. Citizen.The selection process can be anywhere from three (3) months to two and one half (2 ½) years.

 Initial testing requires possession of a CHIP (certificate physical ability exam), successful completion of a written examination and an in person interview. In addition,candidates must pass a psychological exam, medical exam to include drug screening, polygraph and extensive background investigation prior to being hired.

We have hired over a dozen new police officers over the last year and will be looking to hire at least another half dozen in the next year,” said Mayor Ellen ZoppoSassu, who chairs the Police Commission. “We continue to emphasize diversity and are pleased to have welcomed 5 women to the force, as well as 3 men of color.” 

“In addition to the eligibility list the City is forming, we are always open to interviewing certified police officers from other departments who are looking to come work in Bristol,” said Councilman Scott Rosado who serves on the Police Commission.

“The Department currently has staffing level of 122 sworn officers,” said Chief Brian Gould. “Due to vacancies and retirements, the Department has not been fully staffed for several months and we are anxious to come back up to full staffing levels as summer arrives.”
