BRISTOL – The Bristol Central boys track and field squad nearly won the CCC South title on May 25.
In fact, the Rams just missed out on first place by four points as Middletown won the CCC South Divisional Conference title, besting Central, 162-158, to win the league.
“Congrats Bristol Central Boys track and field,” said Central coach Tamara Stafford-Kirk via Twitter. “Great season [and] great memories.”
Bristol Eastern placed seventh overall behind a 44-point effort.
The Rams had several dual winners which included Nate DeAngelo as the senior standout took three races.
DeAngelo won the 800 meters (1:59.69), the mile (4:25.62) and two mile challenges (9:51.07) over another huge effort.
And junior Victor Rosa pulled off the same feat, taking the 100 meters (11.12 seconds), 200 meters (22.75 seconds) and made up one of legs of the winning 4×100 relay team along with Nick Jones, Jarrett Boxley, and Xavier Browne (45.11 seconds).
And then Central made several second place finishes along the way.
Sophomore Frankie Porrini was the runner-up in the 800 (2:00:45) and 1600 (4:31.76) while earning third place in the high jump (five feet, eight inches).
The combination of Austin Freve, Noah Conrod, Mitchell Peterson, and Ramon Peters took second place in the 4×400 relay (3:39.85).
Jakob Salinas made a toss of 158 feet, seven inches for second place in the javelin.
The combination of Ramon Peters, Freve, Chris Roy, and Ryan Sarmiento grabbed third place in the 4×800 relay (8:43.75) while Daniel Lauretti was third in the discus (126 feet, nine inches)
All-Conference honors were earned by Rosa, DeAngelo, Freve, Porrini, Breland, T. Jones, Browne, Conrod, Peterson, Peters, and Salinas for their efforts at the CCC South meet.
“Seniors, thank you,” said Stafford-Kirk. “You’re legacy will live on through your track and field brothers.”
For Eastern, Dante Marciano won the 400 meters (51.92 seconds) while Carter Harris took the pole vault event with a successful make of 10 feet, six inches.
And Ray Williams earned second place in the triple jump (39 feet, one inch).
Those three athletes from Eastern took home CCC South All-Conference honors.
