LEDYARD – No. 11 ranked Bristol Central softball team gave No. 6 Ledyard a battle in CIAC Class L second round play on Wednesday but the locals absorbed a tough 3-0 season ending loss on the road.
The sixth-seeded Colonials saw pitcher Sara Rivers chuck a four-hitter over another shutout effort.
Ledyard continued in tournament play as the squad will battle No. 14 Fitch on Friday.
Fitch of Groton ended up upsetting third ranked Berlin in a 5-0 blanking, so #6 seed Ledyard earned another game from its home field.
Rivers was sharp as she did not allow any free passes against the Rams and half of her four hits were tallied by Central’s Kaley Laird.
Laird led the charge at the plate, going 2-of-3 overall, as the Rams fell against an elite pitcher.
Offensively for Ledyard, Aaliyah Amidon smacked a double and triple while scoring two runs.
Iyana Kirvan also added a triple, scored a run and collected two RBI.
It was an excellent season by the Rams as its senior unit truly stepped up in 2021.
Janessa Bartell, Kayla St. Onge, Brooke Soucy, Kayleigh Dionne, Emily Ericson, and Gwen Torreso all played in their final game for the Rams – a program that finished an outstanding year at 16-5.
“[The] biggest loss today was our senior class,” said Central coach Monica Hayes via Twitter. “Congrats on finishing four years of Bristol Central softball. Thank you for a great season.”
