After play was halted due to rain and lightning on Tuesday with Bristol leading Meriden 11-0 after one full inning, Bristol easily did away with Meriden by a final score of 22-1 on Wednesday. It was the second straight game that Bristol scored 22 runs in the district tournament.
Bristol’s offense continued to remain red hot. Desiree Nickerson went 4 for 5 with three runs scored. Arianna Rivera went 3 for 3 with a walk and 4 RBI. Hailey Beebe and Olivia Gallup were both perfect from the plate during the two-day contest combining for 8 runs scored between them both. Twin sisters Kayla Webber and Leah Webber combined for 7 runs of their own, while Madison Foertsch scored two runs in two at bats.
Brooklynne Whitlock was the winning pitcher for Bristol. The righthander went four innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out eight, as Bristol completed their second straight game by the 15-run mercy rule. Whitlock has allowed a total of three hits between the first two games of the district tournament.
Chloe Enger took the loss for Meriden. Enger went the distance for Meriden, striking out two. Engel went 1-for-2 at the plate to break up the no-hitter and the shutout in the final inning of the game.
Bristol tallied one home run on the day. Rivera hit a an inside the park home run in the third inning.
Bristol tallied 15 hits in all. Nickerson led Bristol with four hits in five at bats. Bristol tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Starting Catcher Olivia Gallup led the way with three stolen bases. For the third day in a row, Bristol didn’t commit a single error in the field. Gallup had the most chances in the field with eight.
As long as the weather cooperates, Bristol (2-0) will face Meriden (0-1) again on Thursday at 7pm under the lights at historic Rockwell Park for the District 5 Junior League Softball Championship, and the right to move onto the Sectional Tournament in Orange, CT.
