Last night in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Bristol Historical Society, The Democratic Town Committee made their official endorsements for city offices, including the Mayor, City Council, Board of Education, and Board of Assessment Appeals.
At the top of the ticket, Ellen Zoppo-Sassu, who is chasing her third term as mayor, was heartily endorsed. Addressing the crowd and reflecting on the resiliency of the city, she touted her accomplishments, “This is the time for Bristol, where we not only look at today, tomorrow, next week, next year- but five years from now, ten years from now, and literally leave our community in a better place than anybody could have anticipated. Our theme is progress you can see. We are Democrats. We don’t just fix for today. We fix for the future.”
On the city council front, incumbents Greg Hahn and Scott Rosado were endorsed for re-election in District 1.
In District 2, Robert Mielcarz, received the nod from the party because current council member David Preleski is running for City Treasurer. Peter Kelley, seeking a third term, was also endorsed. Kelley told the crowd he was humbled and proud to be part of the team.
Over in District 3, Mary Fortier, a four-term City councilor was nominated alongside Brittany Barney, who narrowly won her first term in 2019.
Political newcomer Jaymie Bianca and longtime political veterans Tom O’Brien and Chris Wilson were endorsed for the Board of Education.
Regarding the Board of Assessment Appeals, Shirley Salvatore, and Tom Ragaini received endorsements from the town committee.
Updated with correction. Shirley, not Julie, Salvatore, is running for Board of Assessment Appeals.
