Bristol Eastern’s volleyball team jumped all over Avon in the first set and coasted to an easy straight-set victory Wednesday night. The score in sets was 25-7, 25-20, 25-22.
The first set was an example of total domination as the Lancers scored points in bunches. Avon could get nothing going as Eastern served extremely well and dominated the net.
In sets two and three, Lancer Coach Stefanie Reay took the chance to play many different combinations and give her younger players some extensive varsity experience. The scores were closer, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Eastern was led by Hannah Webber, who collected 21 kills along with 5 aces and 5 digs. Lauren Bender had a strong effort with 12 kills and 6 digs, and Gabriela Caucci had an excellent floor game, chipping in an ace and 9 digs.
Avon was led Jocee Powers, who had 13 digs, and Caitlyn Garcia Stevenson with 5 kills.
Bristol Eastern improves their record to 10-3.
Avon drops to 2-11.
The Lancers next match is on Friday at Lewis Mills for a 6:00 encounter.
