Jay Trelli

Jay David Trelli, 64, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Bristol, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a long struggle with his health on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

Jay was born in Bristol, on Oct. 18, 1957, and was a son of the late Paul and Lucille (Fortier) Trelli. A longtime Bristol resident, he grew up attending St. Anthony Church and graduated from Bristol Central High School in 1976. Jay was a standout athlete playing multiple sports and was co-captain of the BCHS football team.

After graduating, he went on to coach football at the high school making life-long friends like Tom Bruni. Jay chose social work as a career and was promoted to Director of Residential Care at Mt St. John School in Deep River, Conn., for 20 years.

In retirement, he owned and operated “The Traveling Bistro” food truck and was parked daily in Bristol on North Main St. and later Pine St. Jay also brought the “Bistro” to the Yale Bowl in New Haven selling food at football games and at other large events in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

He loved to cook, especially for Sunday family dinners. Enjoying retirement, he moved to Fort Myers, Fla., with his fiancée Mary Lou Riedel where he resided for the past seven years. He loved the outdoors, swimming every day, hunting and fishing with John Terrciano, playing cards, football games, and going to the casino.

Jay is survived by his son Joseph Trelli of Bristol, of whom he was so proud, and wife Ashlee Trelli; by his fiancée, Mary Lou Riedel formerly of Southington and her children Jeremy and Jessica Riedel. He also leaves a brother, Fred Trelli and wife, Angelique Trelli of Fort Myers, Fla., two sisters, Dawn Churchill and husband Steven Churchill of Florida; Tina Boling and Louis Leonard of Bristol. He leaves his nieces and nephews Megan Boling, Gino and Anthony Trelli, Ryan and Kasey Churchhill. He was predeceased by his nephew Eric Boling. Additionally, he leaves Joseph Trelli’s mother Maureen. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Gizzy and grand-dog Brynlee.
