Olive R (Taylor) Haviland, 95, widow of Raymond E. Haviland, passed into eternal life on Thursday, April 17, at The Pines at Bristol. A lifelong resident of Bristol, she lived on Norwalk Avenue with her six siblings and parents. She was a softball player on a women’s league in the 30’s and 40’s and a Cub Scout Den Mother in the 60’s. She was a wife, mother, sister and friend to everyone. She raised her family with love and devotion. Her family was very important to her. We will miss her wit and feistiness. Her strength and courage will live on in her child ren.
Olive is survived by five children: Catherine Turner and husband, Brian of Lake Worth, Fla., Calvin Haviland of New Britain, Charles Haviland and wife Robin, of Dudley, Mass., Carol Rivard and husband, Jerry of Terryville, and John Haviland of Bristol; seven grandchildren: April Young and David Turner of West Palm Beach, Fla., Crystal Haviland of Oakland, Calif., Aaron and Nathan Haviland of Dudley, Mass., Michelle Cornish of Terryville, and Ryan Rivard of Milton, Vt.; seven great-grandchildren: Danna and Dayden of West Palm Beach, Fla., Oliver Haviland of Oakland, Calif., Dennis Ill and Haley Young of West Palm Beach, Fla., Richard Cornish of Terryville, and Brighton Rivard of Milton, Vt. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda Haviland.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church, 99 Summer St., Bristol. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Friday between 5 and 7 p.m.
