BRISTOL – With head coach Tyler Catlin welcoming a brand-new baby into the world, the Bristol Eastern softball team gave its first-year coach a great gift for the newborn.
And that was a big victory over Conard last Friday in a Central Connecticut Conference Interdivisional tilt.
Eastern assistant coach Rico Lodovico won his first varsity game as the Lancers downed Conard by an 11-4 final from the Thunderdome in Bristol.
Jazmyn Browne helped Eastern get to the pay window, dropping in a three-run homer to pace the Kingstreeters.
But Ali Tellier was clutch from the start for the Lancers from the dish.
Tellier went for a ‘hat trick’ as she belted out three home runs, giving the Lancers a sizable edge in the game.
The Lancers improved to 4-3 on the season.
This coming Monday, Eastern is in action against Platt from the Thunderdome on King Street at 3:45 p.m.
Bristol Boys lacrosse coop just falls short
The Boys lacrosse coop program from Bristol gave it one heck of an effort against Newington on Friday but ending up falling by a 12-9 final in Bristol.
Andrew Spina and Aidan Collins had some big goals along the way while Nate Shorette did a quality job hooking up his teammates for scores.
The Lancers fell to 2-3 off the losing effort.
The squad is back to work on Monday at Wethersfield (5:15 p.m.).
Bristol Eastern girls lacrosse falls to Wethersfield by three
The Lancers had a two-goal lead early in the second half, but Wethersfield went on a 7-2 burst to end the game – picking up a 13-10 win over Eastern on Friday from Alumni Field.
Emma Stavens and Ciara Collins each tallied four goals while Vanessa Drury added two over the losing effort.
The Lancers fell to 2-3 overall on the campaign.
Monday night is a big match for the locals as Bristol Eastern tangles with Bristol Central from the turf at BCHS, commencing at 6:30 p.m.
Bristol Central girls lacrosse draws big stalemate on the road
The BCHS girl lacrosse team came away from Edwin O. Smith with a come-from-behind 6-6 tie on Friday.
The squad moved to 2-1-1 off the stalemate.
Central trailed by three goals in the second half while strong defense allowed the squad to tie it up late before the final buzzer sounded.
Kaylynn LaPointe and Rachel Wygant both scored to square the event up.
Wygant led the Rams with three goals while Emily Lowe added two for the visiting aggression.
And coming up, Central and Eastern battle on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
