Joel Chasse, 88, beloved husband of Roseanne (Soucy) Chasse, died on Wednesday, May 4, at John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington. Joel was born on May 2, 1934 in St. Agatha, Maine, and was one of five children of the late Paul and Rose (Guerrette) Chasse. He was raised and lived in St. Agatha where he worked as a lumberjack and for the paper mill in Madawaska. He moved to Bristol in 1968 and worked for Bristol Hospital general services until retiring in 1997. He a member of the Knights of Columbus Palos Council #35, where was elevated to 4th Degree, and a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church in Bristol. He enjoyed growing his vegetable gardens and feeding and watching the birds in his yard.
In addition to his wife of nearly 70 years, Joel is survived by six children: Gilman Chasse and wife, Wanda of Indian Town, Fla., Joel Chasse, Jr. of Bristol, Roland Chasse and wife, Lydia of Fountain Valley, Calif., Norman Chasse and wife, Lynn of Burlington, Rita Brown and husband, Steven of Kalispell, Mont., and Daniel Chasse of San Diego, Calif.; three siblings: Sister Hilda Chasse, P.F.M. of Worcester, Mass., Joan Theriault of Bristol, and Jean Paul Chasse and wife, Marilyn of Plantsville; seven grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother: Roland Chasse.
Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Monday, May 9, between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebration at St. Gregory Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be private in St. Agatha, Maine.
