George H. Gamache, 90, beloved husband of Myrna (Krampitz) Gamache, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, May 6. George was born on Sept. 25, 1931, in Bristol and was the son of the late George and Nancy (Marshall) Gamache.
As a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954, he proudly served his country in the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant. He returned home to Bristol where he was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and longtime employee of Southern New England Telephone (later known as AT&T). George was a member of American Legion Post #2, loved to watch his Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and both UConn basketball teams bring home championships. Along with spending time with family and friends, George also enjoyed bowling in his spare time.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, George is survived by; two daughters: Sheri Lejeune and husband, David of Bristol, and Lori Maghini and husband, Michael of Bloomfield; daughter-in-law: Rita Gamache of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren: Kelly Violet and husband Robert, Craig Lejeune and fiancée Hannah Bell, Ryan Maghini and wife Christine, Brendan Maghini, Matthew Maghini, Caroline O’Day and husband Ryan, Heidi Raimato and husband Anthony, Britta Mikelson and husband Donovan, and Krista Gamache; three great-grandchildren: Jackson Violet, Madeline Maghini, and Beatrix Raimato. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Gary Gamache, and his younger sister, Louise Grenier.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 18, at 12 noon at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home on Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 12 noon.
