BCHS’s Porrini places in nationals
Bristol Central boys track and field star Frankie Porrini ended his junior year with a fifth place finish in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a top-five finish at the Nike Outdoor Nationals from the University of Oregon on Saturday.
He ended the race with a time of 6:03.42 – topping Ben Saelens from North Seattle, Washington by just 0.06 of a second for his fifth-place finish.
CDC authorizes COVID-19 vaccine for children 6 months to 5 years
On Saturday, CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, endorsed the plan for all children 6 months through 5 years of age to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, expanding eligibility to nearly 20 million additional children.
According to the official release from the CDC, states parents and caregivers can now get their children 6 months through 5 years of age vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine. The recommendation is for all children, including those who have already had COVID-19.
Bristol remains in red regarding COVID
In Hartford County the community level is Medium but Bristol is still in the red with 15 or more cases per 100,000 people. The rate dropped from the previous week from 23.8 percent to 16.6 percent.
The CDC recommends that people at high risk for severe illness, talk to their healthcare provider about whether to need to wear a mask and take other precautions. In addition, the CDC reminds people to take the following measures:
- Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
- Get tested if you have symptoms
- People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.
