The Charter Revision Commission will hold a final public hearing this evening at 7 p.m. prior to its regularly scheduled meeting at the Bristol Public Library. The hearing will address the commission’s final recommendations to the city council
Among the revisions to the city charter proposed for this year’s ballot are the following:
- Shall the city council be increased from six to nine members with multiparty representation and the board of finance be increased from eight to eleven members.
- Shall technical revisions to the charter providing for consistency in capitalization and terminology be approved?
- Shall council districts be created by the registrars of voters rather than through the public process of the charter revision procedure?
- Shall elected or appointed officials who engage in felonious conduct, fraudulent conduct, or unlawful harassment be subject to penalties up to and including removal from office?
- Shall the term of office of mayor be increased from two years to four years?
