The Bristol Eastern boys and girls cross country programs had a busy day of action from Page Park in Bristol last Tuesday afternoon.

The girls outfit split the day against Lewis Mills and Berlin while the boys fell to both teams from the Johnie M. Floyd cross country course.

On the girls side, Berlin defeated Eastern 19-42 while performing well against Mills – posting a 15-50 victory.

The Redcoats also picked off the Spartans by the same 15-50 push to sweep the day.

Berlin’s Natalia Kmita won the race for the girls, zipping up a time of 22:54 while a certain star freshman from the Kingstreeters was the runner-up.

“Kaelyn Gonzalez ran strong, coming in second place overall with a time of 24:01,” said Eastern coach Paul Ryskowski of his first-year sensation.

In terms of the top 15 at the event, the only other Eastern runner to crack that group was veteran Lauren Ayotte who also ran extremely well up, down, and back up all the hills that the Johnie M. Floyd course provides.

“Lauren Ayotte also had a strong day coming in 15th place with a time of 28:14,” said Ryskowski.

The boys from King Street had a rougher time of it, losing to Mills (18-43) and just fell to Berlin (27-30).

Eastern’s Dominic Tartarelli ended up leading the charge for the home team.

“Dominic Tartarelli runs a tough race and finishes in third [place] with a time of 19:43,” said Ryskowski.
