American Clock & Watch Museum presents gallery talk by noted author

Mary Jane Dapkus, former museum curator and editor of the Timepiece Journal, will present a gallery talk on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Dapkus will share research from her award-winning book, Joseph Ives and the Looking Glass Clock., which includes never-before-published data and relates the role that this clock design played in a notorious scandal involving Lott Newell, the Lewis family, and the headquarters of the Museum—the 1801 Miles Lewis house.

Dapkus will be available after the talk to sign her book and guests will receive the special member rate for the Joseph Ives book purchased that evening. Program fee is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Admission to the museum is included.

Registration requested, but not required. Call the museum 860-583-6070. In case of inclement weather, please check the museum’s website www.clockandwatchmuseum.org.

Latest COVID-19 stats

The latest COVID-19 stats were unavailable from the state portal. Here is last week’s report.

As of Nov. 22, Bristol’s COVID-19 positivity rate is 4.2 percent down from 5.2 percent with 22 cases down from 35 positive cases over the past seven days, leaving Bristol in the high category with over 15 cases per 100,000 people. Hartford County is in the low category.

The CDC recommends that people at high risk for severe illness, talk to their healthcare provider about whether to need to wear a mask and take other precautions. In addition, the CDC reminds people to take the following measures:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
  • Get tested if you have symptoms
  • People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.
  • People who are immunocompromised, can learn more about how to protect themselves here.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access eight (8) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
