Bristol Eastern wrestling grapples at Class M Title meet this weekend from Law High School

BRISTOL – It’s a big day for the Bristol Eastern wrestling program as the Lancers are checked into championship weekend.

And for the first time, the Kingstreeters are in the Class M mix.

“We’re not in the Class Ls” said Eastern coach Todd Krolikowski. “We’re in the Class M [Tournament] this year. It’s kind of a different feel for them.”

The Class M championship tilt takes place from Jonathan Law High School and it’s a new look for the Eastern program.

Teams that could be in the championship mix includes defending champion Branford along with RHAM – one of the top-10 squads in the state.

Also in the mix will be Foran and CCC South competitor Berlin.

“It’s definitely a different kind of tournament,” said Krolikowski of the Class M bout. “We can have a lot of place winners. We’ll see what we have.”

Top grapplers for the Eastern program include juniors Adam Zavecz (sixth ranked at 182, 22-9 overall) and Owen Broyles (fifth at 195, 19-13 overall) and sophomore Luke Viens (ninth in 126, 26-13 overall).

But up and down the card, Eastern have athletes that could surprise and qualify into the later rounds.

The Lancers hope to earn a top-10 showing at the event and make a big postseason splash.

“I’m excited to see what we have,” said Krolikowski. “I think a lot of people can place, a lot of people can go to the [State] Open and we’ll see what we can do there.”
