The Bristol Board of Education has hired a new director of athletics. Cera Orner begins in her new position on March 27.
Orner fills the position that has been vacant since the former director of athletics Chris Cassin retired. The announcement was made on Wednesday at the board’s monthly meeting.
Bristol Superintendent of Schools Catherine Carbone provided Orner’s bio at the meeting. It includes the following:
Orner earned a bachelor’s degree in English and literature, a master’s degree in secondary education and teaching, and a sixth-year certificate in educational leadership all from Quinnipiac University.
Orner was a member of Quinnipiac’s Division I acrobatics and tumbling team for four years and was a senior captain of the NCAA National Runner-Up team. She has taught English for the past eight years at North Branford High School, where she was head coach of North Branford’s girls volleyball team.
Previously, she coached Sacred Heart Academy’s competitive cheerleading team, which placed in the top 10 in state competition. Orner is a certified personal trainer as well as a certified nutrition coach.
Editor’s note: Orner’s start date is March 27, which was incorrectly stated in the original.
All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
