In Bristol Soccer Club action from last week, the U11 girls team picked up a huge victory during first round state cup play.
On the road, Bristol defeated Enfield by a 6-5 final via penalty kicks final to advance in postseason play.
The locals were down 3-0 to open play but then notched four straight goals to scoop up a 4-3 edge late in the match.
But as time was about to run out, Enfield scored late to tie things up at 4-4 – forcing two overtimes.
After the completion of two extra frames, the winner was not yet decided.
Bristol scored in the second OT period to go up 5-4, but a free kick by Enfield resulted in another goal, as the game was all knotted up at 5-5.
Penalty kicks ensued from there where Bristol finally pulled out the win.
Bristol’s Maddy Ciminera kicked a goal in to square the penalty kick tally to 1-1.
Bristol keeper Alyssa Robidoux made a huge diving play to halt Enfield’s sixth shot form going in and on the flip side, Abigail Stavens ended the match with a kick into the right corner for the game-winning goal – propelling the squad from Bristol into second round play.
Bristol will play the winner of Avon/Southington.
The Southington team is coached by Bristol’s Shaun Redman.
Ella Gokey and Natalia Assiss scored two goals apiece for the Bristol squad while teammate Arianna Iannarilli notched score in regulation to help defeat Enfield.
