Bristol Central boys track & field a perfect 14-0 with first place triumph at the CCC South Championships on Tuesday

By Michael Letendre

MERIDEN – The Bristol Central boys track and field program went a perfect 14-0 this year, ending the regular season with another CCC South Championship.

At the CCC South Championships on Tuesday from Maloney High School, Central scored 167 points to take the title while crosstown rival Bristol Eastern nabbed 130 for second place.

“It was an awesome meet,” said Central coach Tamara Stafford-Kirk. “My boys really stepped up!”

Maloney (85 points) took third place, Plainville (84) finished in fourth while Lewis Mills (79) nabbed fifth.

While Central ran extremely well, Eastern wasn’t far behind with several big finishes.

The Lancers lost just twice this year, both times to Central, over a really good spring scholastic campaign.

“The boys placed second in the conference and finished the season with a record of 12-2,” said Eastern coach Paul Ryskowski.

The Rams dominated in the distance and field events, scooping up several of its meet winning points over those bouts.

Central senior Frankie Porrini once again proved why he’s one of the state’s top track athletes, winning the 1600 meters (4:22.20) and the 3200 (9:58.85) over two tremendous finishes.

Between cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field programs, Porrini has been one of the best athletes Bristol Central has ever seen.

And in the 800 meters in Meriden, Porrini’s time of 1:58.04 was an amazing runner up tally.

Also in the 800 meters, Central’s Isaiah Fabrizo (third place, 2:03.35) finished well while Patrick Wininger had a solid 1600 meter finish (fifth, 4:42.67).

Central’s Chris Roy was the runner up in the 3200 meters (10:14.45), running extremely well in the distance event.

Logan Jackson showed his mettle in both the 100 and 300 meters.

Jackson ended the 110 meters in 16.16 seconds (third place) and in the 300, his time of 42.28 seconds was good for the runner up position.

In the 4×400 meter relay, Central’s foursome of Rowan Hennessey, Isaiah Fabrizio, Aiden Georgakopoulos, and Julieen Lopez finished in third place (3:36.33).

And then the grouping of Lopez, Fabrizio, Roy and Wininger were the runner’s up in the 4×800 meter relay (8:20.94).

Tashawn Cauley (shot put) took second place with a heave of 41 feet, six inches, and in the discus, Aengus Repeta finished in third place (116 feet, one inch).

In the jumping events, Central senior Tre Blair made two first place tallies, finishing his final CCC event in style.

He won the high jump (six feet, one inch) and the triple jump (42 feet, 8.25 inches).

And Blair finished third in the long jump (20-02.50) to complete a busy day.

Also in the jumping events, Anthony Paulino won the long jump (21 feet, 4 inches) and seized second in the triple jump (42 feet).

And in the pole vault, Jude Browning (11 feet) was the runner up of the CCC event.

Eastern did extremely well against the fierce competition Central provided.

All Conference honors for the Lancers included the sprinting exploits of Rayshon Andrews.

He placed second in the 100 meters in 11.3 seconds and then won the 200 with a sterling time of 22.31 seconds.

Jack Mulcunry was tremendous once again in the 800 and 1600 meter events.

He won the 800 in a sterling time of 1:56.48 and was the runner up in the 1600 (4:38.4).

When you finish the 800 meters in under two minutes, that’s an amazing time.

Continuing with Mulcunry’s exploits, Eastern’s 4×800 relay team finished in first place (8:19.34).

The grouping of Dominic Tartarelli, Jase Koczur, Cole Beland, and Mulcunry were tremendous while the 4×400 squad earned runner up honors.

The team of Zion Otero, Dennis Cruz, Dylan Bartucca, and Damien Colon ended the race in 3:35.52.

“I’m very proud of both the boys and girls,” said Ryskowski. “They came into the meet with something to prove and showed that they can compete at a championship level. Jack Mulcunry had [a] huge day, earning all-conference status in three events. This team has come such a long way and I’m excited to see where we go next.”
