St. Paul took advantage of eleven walks, two hit batters, two errors, and two balks to score six runs over the first five innings on route to a 7-3 State Tournament win over Canton in Bristol on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons now move on to the quarterfinals on Saturday, hosting Valley Regional for a 1:00 matinee matchup.
Catcher Cal Chance had St. Paul’s first hit, a single leading off the bottom of the 6th inning. Chance advanced to third on an errant pick off attempt, and scored St Paul’s seventh and final run on Ryan Kilpatrick’s RBI single.
Canton scored its first run in the top of the 3rd inning. An infield error allowed lead off batter Noah Asmar to reach safely, and Asmar scored on Jake Dest’s RBI single. In the top of the 6th, Sammy Lincoln led off with a single, stole 2nd, and later came in to score on a wild pitch. Canton scored its final run when Nate Hiscox singled home Asmar who had walked earlier in the inning.
Sophomore Logan Rembish picked up his 5th win of the season scattering four hits over 5 and 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) while striking out seven.
Starter Sammy Lincoln took the loss for Canton.
