Today’s trivia question
Who holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations?
This day in history
On June 12, 1931, Al Capone was indicted with 500 charges of racketeering and bootlegging. (TBE wonders if he ever ran for President.)
On this date in 1929, Anne Frank was born.
in 1931, George H.W. Bush was born on this date.
Bear sightings
Bristol ranks 7th in Connecticut for bear sightings this year. We have had 130. That is far behind Simsbury’s 303.
Bear facts
- Adult black bears usually weigh between 150 and 550 pounds.
- Bears are omnivores. They will eat grasses, fruits, nuts, and berries. They also will seek insects (particularly ants and bees), scavenge carrion, and raid bird feeders and garbage cans. Bears occasionally will prey on small mammals, deer, and livestock, especially deer fawns during late spring and early summer.
- There are thought to be 1,000 to 1,200 bears living in Connecticut.
It is time to say goodbye for today. Although it is a Monday, we are sure you can “bear” it.
See you Tuesday morning, Bristol.
All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
