Hello, Bristol! What brings you to Tuesday? Passing through or just stopping in?
Weather
High 70s. Mostly sunny, or occasional clouds if you prefer.
Pothole Patrol
The GMB staff drove into this crater Monday morning on Burlington Avenue.
He said it
Near the long line to Bristol’s tax assessor’s office:
“This line was not this long two weeks ago. You should not wait until the last minute to pay your taxes!”

On this date
It is hard to believe that 50 years ago today (Aug. 1, 1973), Boston Red Sox second baseman, 26-year-old Doug Griffin, hit a lazy fly ball to Felipe Alou in right field to end the bottom of the fifth inning against the New York Yankees. Sigh.
But for Alou and home plate umpire Joe Brinkman, everyone associated with the play is dead. Doug Griffin (2016), pitcher Mel Stottlemyre (2019), catcher Thurman Munson (1979), first base umpire Hank Morgenweck (2007) and even first base coach Don Lenhardt (2014). Sad.
As for the status of the 30,689 in attendance, we are still checking.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
