Robert A. Abrams, 93, of Unionville, beloved husband of Estelle (Sisken) Abrams, died on Friday, July 28, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Bob was born in Bridgeport on July 7, 1930, and was a son of the late Archibald and Anna (Sherman) Abrams.
He was raised and lived in Bridgeport before moving to Bristol where he raised his family. He was the proprietor of many sporting goods stores culminating in the formation of Bob’s Chalet, a local ski and sport shop for almost 50 years.
A lover of all sports, Bob was an avid skier and tennis player and loved baseball. He loved to fish and every chance he had he would sneak away with his fishing pole to fish with his buddies. He was a member of the Jacklin Rod and Gun Club. Along with sports, he enjoyed owning and driving sports cars of which he had many.
Bob served this country and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was also a member of the Frederick-Franklin Lodge #14 of Masons and was recently awarded his 65-year pin. Bob was a member and served as past president of the former Beth Israel Synagogue of Bristol. During his service to the synagogue, he oversaw the renovation of the Beth Israel cemetery where he will be interred.
Bob and his wife Estelle were snowbirds enjoying six months each year at their home in Jupiter, Fla. Many of his fond memories were of times he spent with family and friends in Florida.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by a daughter: Sherry Abrams Mohr and husband, Scott of Texas; three grandchildren: Chloe Abrams Bozzuto and husband Andrew, Elijah Abrams, and Sam Grubbs and fiancée, Haleigh Manela; two great grandchildren: Blake and Cole Bozzuto; daughter-in-law: Eden Abrams; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son: David Abrams, and a brother: Lee Abrams.
The family offers a heartfelt thank you to Marybel Martinez, his PCA, for her unwavering support, love, and care.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
