Nancy G. (Garnier) Rogers, 76

Nancy G. (Garnier) Rogers, 76, of West Hartford, widow of James M. Rogers, died on Saturday, July 29, at St. Mary Home in West Hartford. Nancy was born Aug. 2, 1946, in Batavia, N.Y., and was a daughter of the late George Waterman Garnier and Anne Francis (Hynes) Garnier.

She was raised in Batavia where she graduated from Notre Dame High School and then attended college at Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, N.Y.

She moved to Bristol after college, raising her children and ultimately earning her master’s degree in education. She taught home economics in the Bristol school system, mainly at Memorial Boulevard School and retiring from Chippens Hill Middle School. She lived in Terryville with Jim until his passing, before moving to West Hartford. 

She loved the beach and was especially fond of Moody Beach, Wells, Maine, and Cocoa Beach, Fla. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and going for walks.  

Nancy is survived by her two children: Brian Traverso and wife, Kelly of Oxford, and Ellen Mahoney and husband, Joshua of West Hartford; a sister: Jane Garnier of Monroe; a brother: William Garnier of Toronto; two grandchildren: Drew and Emily Traverso; and two nephews: Michael and Jon Mullen.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 111 School St. Bristol. Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Mausoleum, Bristol.
