Good morning, Bristol!

Monday is in the books and Tuesday is now on the clock. Calibrate, Bristol.

More of the same.

Pothole Patrol

The PHP unexpectedly ran over this thing Sunday morning on Maltby Street.

Speaking of Maltby Street

The road, which joins Mix Street and Stafford Avenue, was built in 1852 and was named for Ephraim Scovel Maltby. Say that three times fast.

In May of 1965, three young men were arrested for drag racing on the road. As a result, a driver crashed into a ditch.

The men aged 22 and 21 were clocked at 90 miles per hour. A third, 19, was charged for being an accessory as he was the starter and countdown man.

In August 1974, the city of New Britain and the Bristol slo-pitch softball league inked a deal allowing the league to lease the land on Maltby and Mix Streets for $1 per year.

The deal also allowed Bristol Midget Football and the Hornets Model Airplane Flying Club to use the space too.

From the Desk of Plato

“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. “

The La Cucaracha

That does it. Keep your hands to yourself, Bristol. See ya Thursday (maybe).

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
