The late Stacey Porrini Clingan will be inducted into the UMaine Sports Hall of Fame this evening, it was reported on the Hall of Fame website. Porrini was a standout at Bristol Central High School and a first-grade teacher here in Bristol.
During her years at UMaine, the first being 1993, the Black Bears basketball program won three consecutive titles and made its first three appearances in the NCAA tournament.
She ranks fifth in UMaine women’s basketball with 929 rebounds and is 17th in career scoring with 1,128 points. She averaged 9.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game over her career.
She shares UMaine’s records for blocked shots, seven in one game, and blocks in a season, 79. Twice she earned all-conference honors as a second-team pick in 1996 and 1997, respectively.
During her Black Bears career, the team was 93-26, with a 61-5 record in the North Atlantic Conference.
She graduated Bristol Central High School in 1993, where she swam, played basketball and participated in outdoor track and field. She was inducted in the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
Her husband, Bill, resides in Bristol. Her oldest child, Donovan, attends the University of Connecticut, and her youngest, Olivia, attends Clemson.
Porrini Clingan, who is receiving the honor posthumously, died of breast cancer in 2018 at age 42.
