Gertrude (Wilde) “Trudi” Wedler, of Bristol, widow of Herbert E. Wedler, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 21. Trudi was born on Jan. 26, 1934, in Bristol and was a daughter of the late Otto and Wanda (Radke) Wilde.
A lifelong Bristol resident, she graduated from Bristol High School and from Central Connecticut State University, then known as the Teacher’s College where she also played on the basketball team. She taught school in Plainville and Bristol including Linden St., Broad St., Memorial Boulevard, O’Connell and Hubbell schools with a focus in special education and kindergarten until her retirement.
A published author, Trudi was a talented artist, enjoyed traveling, knitting, sewing and was a UConn Basketball fan. Her church family was a part of her as she was active at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Bristol where she sang in the choir, was in an active prayer group and started a Cozy Cover Ministry and later enjoyed attending St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Avon with her daughter’s family.
Above all, the love of her life was her husband Herb with whom she walked the path of marriage for 66 years. Trudi survived by three daughters: Carole Wedler of Bristol, Joanie Wedler of Goshen, and Heidi Beaulieu of Burlington; a sister: Evelyn Tucker of Virginia and her children, Bob and Janice; and two granddaughters: Amelia Beaulieu and Mykala Wedler.
Relatives and friends may call at the Funk Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 25, between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely St., Avon. Committal service and burial will be on Wednesday at 2 PM in Peacedale Cemetery, James P Casey Rd., Bristol.
Our Mom’s favorite color was purple and we will be celebrating her life by wearing purple at her service. We encourage others to do the same.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made, in her name, to a charity of choice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
