The scholastic football championships have been completed and on Saturday, it was a big day for the 12 remaining squads in the state – vying for six titles from two venues.
Some of the showdowns came down to the wire while others were finished before the completion of the first half.
Were there any major upsets this year?
No eighth ranked seeds ended up winning on Championship Saturday but No. 5 North Haven was able to blank No. 3 Wilton (21-0) in the Class MM tilt.
No. 7 seeded Joel Barlow brought home the Class SS title via a 21-20 win over No. 8 Watertown – falling to 7-6 overall as the runner-up.
In the Class S final, No. 2 Bloomfield was a 42-20 winner over No. 4 Cromwell/Portland, the only representative from the Central Connecticut Conference.
In five of the six brackets, the higher seed ended up winning a title.
