ROCKY HILL – The Bristol Eastern boys basketball team survived a physical effort by Rocky Hill on Friday night, coming away with a 49-37 victory in a CCC interdivisional tilt.
The Lancers, getting a huge 23-point effort from Lukas Sward, moved to 11-3 overall with the win.
The Terriers fell to 2-12.
Eastern trailed early but after two consecutive hoops by Sward to end the first quarter, the visitors led 12-10 and never trailed again.
“Every season, no matter what, you’re going to have a game like that,” Eastern coach Bunty Ray said. “To come out with a win is better than coming out with a loss. I was not very happy with any part of the game today, but that just means the bar has been raised. That doesn’t mean these kids don’t have bigger expectations. They want to play better.”
“Our record didn’t show how we performed tonight.”
Jordan Chisholm, Zaveyn Tate and Isaiah Lawrence-Bynum scored six points apiece while Brayden Dauphinais added five for Eastern.
Casey Robinson and Jaden Veal each scored nine points for Rocky Hill.
The Lancers outscored the Terriers 15-4 over second period play to claim a 27-14 edge at the half.
Rocky Hill got as close as seven points the rest of the way – leading Eastern to the 12-point win.
The Lancers are back in action on Monday at home against Berlin.
