Bristol Eastern wrestlers clinch CCC South championship with 47-22 victory over cross-town rival Central

When Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central match up in wrestling every year, the expectation is of a back and forth battle in which everyone sits on the edge their seats. And this year, the CCC South title was also on the line for Eastern, as they entered Wednesday’s event with a 5-0 league record.

And Wednesday night, after the first six matches, it appeared as if this year’s battle would go right down to the last match. After six, the score was tied at 13 apiece, and neither team could gain the advantage.

Suddenly, though, the Lancers pounced, winning the next six matches in a row, five by pin with an added forfeit. The 13-13 tie became a 43-13 insurmountable lead.

For the Lancers, the dominant run began at the 190 lbs., as Aidan Davies, Rio Fernandez (215), Nuon Sovannara (285), and Yusuf Bah (113) all pinned their opponents. In the BE run of victories, Alexander Soares (106) also collected six points with a forfeit.

For Eastern, Rocco Barbino (150) also won by pin, while Luke Viens (132) and Gabe White (138) won major decisions and Owen Broyles won a decision at 175.

The Rams’ Lincoln Archibald (157) and Alex Lamarre (126) both won by pin. Aiden Lamarre won a major decision, while Donovan Plantamuro (165) and Kaden Dragon (120) won decisions for BC.

Both teams now have a week off before the State Championships on Feb. 16 & 17.

Bristol Central will compete in Class L at Wilton High School.

Bristol Eastern will be in Class M at Guilford High School.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
