The city’s top 25 wage earners include 6 administrators, among them 2 recent retirees

The city’s top administrator salary earner during 2023 was Bristol Public Schools Superintendent Catherine Carbone, according to figures provided by the comptroller’s office.

Carbone, at $239,462 was followed by chief information officer Scott Smith, who retired last year, at $198,106; deputy superintendent of schools, Michael Dietter, at $194,808; Patricia Tomascak, executive director of the Bristol Senior Center/Dept. of Aging, who also retired, at $190,850; Comptroller Diane Waldron, at $188,023; and Robert Longo, superintendent of water and sewer, at $182,603.

However, the highest wage earners in the top 25 were police officers with various roles and titles.

Scott Werner, detective, $334,839; Ulric Berube, lieutenant, $261,477; Patrick Krajewski, lieutenant, $253,629; Robert Motel, detective, $245,684, Eric Wethered, $227,735; Lang Mussen, lieutenant, $216,661; Peter Dauphinais, detective, $212,633; Jason Warner, lieutenant, $208,953; Christopher Lennon, lieutenant, $208,379; Mark Kichar, police officer, $204,259; Geoffrey Lund, lieutenant, $201,358; Brian Hileman, police officer, $197,571; Lance Podlesney, detective, $197,547; Craig O’Connor, lieutenant, $197,101; Craig Duquette, sergeant, $195,855; James Doyle, detective, $195,855; Robert Mendela, detective, $187,504; George Franek, sergeant, $186,232; and Robert Osborne, lieutenant, $182,926.

A note from the comptroller’s office states that the amounts include private duty wages paid by outside agencies and/or businesses; overtime; and final accumulated sick and vacation payout for employees upon retirement. In addition, amounts to do not include non-taxable employer HSA contributions.
