In his first Varsity appearance, freshman Coby Dagata tossed a no hitter over 5 innings and led the St. Paul Falcons to a 10-0 win over the Ansonia Chargers in Bristol Monday afternoon. Dagata faced only one batter over the minimum striking out 11 to pick up the win. Starter Owen Stolze took the loss for Ansonia.
After Dagata retired the Ansonia batters in order in the top of the first, the St. Paul offense got things rolling in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Logan Rembish singled. Catcher Cal Chance then deposited a 2-1 pitch over the right field fence to give St. Paul an early 2-0 lead.
A walk to A.J. Corrado, a double by Dagata and a walk to Kyle Wilson loaded the bases. Mike DeRosa walked, driving in Corrado to make it 3-0. Then Cooper Sima hit a sacrifice fly to deep center driving in Dagata and allowing Wilson to advance to third. A successful double steal allowed Wilson to score while DeRosa took second base. Then Jay DeRosa singled home his brother Mike to make it 6-0.
St. Paul took advantage of two infield errors to score a seventh run in the bottom of the second, and Jay DeRosa scored again in the third on a double steal attempt.
Leading 8-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning, St. Paul needed two runs to end the game by the 10-run mercy rule.
Mike DeRosa and Arden Polverari led off with back-to-back singles. Jay DeRosa was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pinch hitter Nate Barrett walked driving in Mike DeRosa. Then Rembish grounded out, driving in pinch runner Nate Cravanzola, and ending the game.
