The Spring School Choice Fair will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (doors close at 12:30 p.m.) at the Sport and Medical Sciences Academy, 280 Huyshope Avenue in Hartford. The fair is hosted by The Connecticut State Department of Education’s Greater Hartford Regional School Choice Office (RSCO).
The free event is the last major in-person opportunity to explore RSCO’s school choice options before the 2024-2025 school year extended application deadline on July 19, according to the release.
Through RSCO, all Connecticut families with kids entering Pre-K3 through Grade 12 can apply to attend three types of public schools in the Greater Hartford Region that fit their child’s unique interests and passions, including:
- 43 magnet schools incorporating specialized themes, such as STEM, visual and performing arts, computer science, dual-language and Montessori;
- Open Choice public schools in high-performing school districts (primarily for Hartford residents);
- 3 regional technical high schools within the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS).
At the fair, families can meet with RSCO staff and school representatives to learn more about their choices, sports, extracurricular activities and transportation, as well as get tips, strategies and information about the application process, placement rules and priority protocols, waitlist procedures and much more.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week. Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week. Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
