The Stanley Street Big Band, with its 18-piece orchestra comprised of the area’s best jazz musicians, will be featured at a free concert at the Rockwell Theater on Memorial Boulevard this Friday evening.
The show begins at 7 p.m. with Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central Jazz Bands, playing together under the guidance of Patrick Lennon, a regionally known trumpet players, said Greg Hahn, president of concert sponsor Bristol Arts & Culture Fund, in a release today.
“The purpose of this program, which is also funded by the BACF, is to provide instruction on improvisation techniques as well as to strengthen the jazz programs and promote an understanding that playing an instrument doesn’t end when the students graduate,” Hahn said.
The Stanley Street Big Band will perform from 8 to 9 p.m. The band is led by Dr. Carl Knox, a professor at Central Connecticut State University.
“The Stanley Street Big Band plays a varied repertoire everyone can enjoy,” said Hahn. “We look forward to playing in this beautiful theater as well as seeing the wonderful talent of the next generation of jazz musicians coming up in the ranks.”

All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
