The Bristol Eastern girls lacrosse team hosted Lewis Mills Friday night under the lights at Alumni Field and came away with a 16-14 victory.
The Lancers led after one quarter 6-1, but Lewis Mills stormed back in the 2nd to tie things up at eight.
In the third period, the Lancers again came out on fire to lead 14-10 entering the fourth.
The two teams traded goals to get to 16-12 with four minutes to go. A Lewis Mills triple team led to a turnover and goal to tighten it up at 16-13. On the next possession a scrum in the middle led to a fast break by Mills that led to a penalty in the critical scoring area.
Mills capitalized and cut the lead to 16-14. The Lancers won the draw and killed the final two minutes by passing it around.
Erin Martin had six saves for the Lancers with Jayna Hatcher, Meg Krok and Gabby McLay playing tough defense in front of her.
Vanessa Drury and Emma Stavens each had six goals to lead the offense while Stavens also had a season high 19 draw controls.
Harper Dauphinee had another strong game with seven ground balls and three goals.
Kate Patterson also had a goal and played great defense.
The Lancers continue their homestand on Tuesday with a difficult opponent in Avon coming to town.
All TBE readers, supporters and donors
The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.
- Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
