A suspect in a shooting incident on Stevens Street was detained by Bristol Police after the police responded to a call from a resident when the suspect approached the resident for a ride to Hartford, according to a release from the Bristol Police Dept. issued this morning.
Two officers were injured while taking the suspect into custody.
Bristol Police received multiple calls of a shooting on Stevens Street yesterday, May 2. The caller said that one person from inside a dark sedan was firing rounds at another vehicle while stopped for a traffic light on Stevens Street, according to the police report.
The person firing the shots was described as a male wearing a black top and red pants. The suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
The vehicle that was fired upon fled to Plainville. Plainville Police located the victims of this shooting in the Lowes parking lot with damage to their vehicle. No injuries were reported.
A short time later, Bristol Police received a call from a citizen reporting that, as they arrived home, a male entered their vehicle saying they needed to be brought to Hartford, according to the report.
The citizen described the male which matched the description of the suspect in this incident. Acting quickly, officers and detectives working in the area, responded and detained the suspect.
The suspect has been charged with interfering with an investigation and assault on a police officer. The case is being investigated and additional charges are pending.
In its release, the police included the following statement:
