Bristol is among the state’s towns and cities who have received federal funding for residents in need of affordable housing, it was announced earlier today by members of Connecticut’s Congressional delegation.
Connecticut will receive $535.8 million in federal funding from the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV), according to the release by U.S. representatives John B. Larson (CT-01), Joe Courtnery (CT-02) Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Jim Himes (CT-04) and Jahana Hayes (CT-04) and U.S. senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumental Bristol is represented by Larson, Murphy and Blumenthal.
Bristol will receive $8,172,845 from the total. In Bristol, the HCV (also referred to as Section 8) program is administered by the Bristol Housing Authority. Information about the program is available by clicking here.
According to Larson, 40,000 Connecticut residents will be able to stay in their homes as the result of the legislation.
“These funds will ensure families can find and remain in affordable, quality housing, while also spurring the growth of housing supply across the country,” he said.
“This $535 million in federal funding for housing vouchers will help Connecticut residents access and afford safe, appropriate housing in neighborhoods with better schools and more job opportunities,” Blumenthal said.
“As rental costs go up, this $535 million will help connect more people to affordable housing and ensure every family has a safe and stable place to call home,” said Murphy.
HCV is the most comprehensive and effective federal program aimed at reducing homelessness and housing instability, assisting over 2.3 million families nationwide in need of housing, according to the release.
The Connecticut delegation secured a $2 billion funding boost for the HCV program in this year’s government funding package, a nearly 20 percent increase since 2022, also according to the release.

- Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
- Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.
Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
