Virgina (Girard) Cone, 89, of Bristol passed away on Friday, May 24. She was born on Feb. 13,1935, in Hartford, daughter of the late George and Helen (Kozakiewicz) Girard, Sr.
Virginia was the loving wife of the late Rexford L. Cone, Jr. She worked for Stephen Automall for 28 years and retired at the age of 80.
She was an avid Red Sox fan and loved watching the UConn Huskies basketball teams, especially the girls. She never said no to a trip to the casino or a big mug of chocolate ice cream. She enjoyed Saturday breakfast and dinner with friends. Virginia’s greatest joy was the arrival of a grandchild or a great grandchild.
Virginia is survived by her sons Rexford L. Cone, III and his wife Cheryl of Bristol, Roy Cone and his partner Amy Pacsay of North Carolina, Richard Cone of Bristol, Russell Cone of Bristol, daughter Kathleen Menard and her husband Raymond of California; Grandchildren Rex. A. Cone, Emily Johnson, Elizabeth Mayer, James Cone, Michael Garey, Tatiana Menard, Natasha Menard; nine great grandchildren; sisters Georgiane Cote of Middletown, Linda Beloff of Arizona, Dorothy Hamilton of East Windsor, Diane Jobin of Colchester and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Virginia is predeceased by two brothers Kenneth Girard and George Girard, Jr. and three sisters Gloria Kemp, Juanita Martin and MaryAnn Girard.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol starting at 9 a.m. until a procession will begin to St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Bristol for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, St.Jude.org.
