Wheeler sets date for 39th Annual Golf Classic

Wheeler’s 39th Annual Golf Classic will take place at The Country Club of Farmington on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Registration is open, and sponsors, players and prize donors are invited to join those who have already signed up. 

Proceeds will benefit Wheeler’s Basic Needs fund, which his 100 percent donor supported and has served more than 8,500 patients, according to the release.

Clock & Watch Museum to hold watch identification event

A watch identification event will be held at the American Clock & Watch Museum on Saturday, June 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. Watch expert, Micah Tasker, of The Vintage Watchman will guide participants through the process to discover information about a special watch.  

The cost of this service is $10 per watch and each visitor is limited to three watches.

Daniel Tiger featured at Lake Compounce in June

As a part of this year’s Lake Compounce Kids Fest experience, fans of the PBS KIDS series, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” will have the opportunity to meet Daniel Tiger during select times on Saturday, June 1 and 8 and Sunday, June 2 and 9. 

Including Daniel Tiger is part of the park’s plan to introduce more robust event planning with something new to experience each visit, Hemphill said.

Visitors are invited for exclusive meet and greets with Daniel Tiger in the Kiddie Land Pavilion during Kids Fest, a pint-sized party featuring exclusive kids shows, roaming entertainment throughout Kiddie Land, special kid-themed food like Fruity Pebbles churros, Strawberry Dippin’ Dot shakes and more takes place every weekend in June with special surprise guests like Daniel Tiger.

Meet and greets with Daniel Tiger and access to Kids Fest are included free with park admission.

Anonymous grant benefits Wheeler employees

At least 12 $1,000 stipends have become available for Wheeler employees to support childcare and summer camp costs to an anonymous donor, Wheeler Health reports release recently.

the donor is also covering the equivalent of the employee portion of the FICA payroll tax to maximize the benefit for employees receiving the award.

Called The Summer of Hope initiative, after Wheeler’s new administrative headquarters opening at One Hope Street, Bristol, the stipend application will be open to any employee, but priority is given to employees based on financial need.

Wheeler is a statewide human services provider, a federally qualified health center, and operates Northwest Village School, a therapeutic special education day school in Plainville. It employs approximately 1,000 employees.

Wheeler schedules Wednesdays for Mobile Family Health & Wellness Center visits in Bristol

The new Wheeler Mobile Family Health & Wellness Center, equipped with a private exam room, reception area and lift system, will be available at two locations in Bristol on Wednesdays this spring.

Agape House, on 43 School St., from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. will be the location for the mobile center Wednesday mornings.

Brian’s Angels, 99 Summer St., from 12:45 to 3 p.m. will be the location for the center Wednesday afternoons.

The Mobile Family Health & Wellness Center is licensed for care through the Connecticut Department of Public Health and in scope of Wheeler’s federally qualified health centers in Bristol, Hartford, New Britain, Plainville, and Waterbury. It has been in use for community education events since June 2022.

Bristol Veterans Council continues to raise funds for POW/MIA monument

The Bristol Veterans Council continues to raise funds for a POW/MIA monument as part of contingueny in the event that monument needs to be repaired or maintained beyond its agreement with Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services.

The six-foot high, 10-inch thick and three-feet wide gray granite monument honors each branch of the military. It was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 27, this year in ceremonies on Memorial Boulevard.

Lamont announces new one-stop-shop portal for jobseekers

The launch of Connecticut’s new jobs portal, jobs.ct.gov was announced by Gov. Ned Lamont earlier in the month.

Jobs.ct.gov joins health.ct.gov and business.ct.gov as the next service category to be developed in the new digital, one-stop government ecosystem. Some of the resources available through the jobs portal include:

  • Powerful job search tools;
  • Job search tips and personal help;
  • Free and low-cost training, certificate, and classroom programs; and
  • Resources to help employers hire, train, and retain employees.

USA BMX holds free event in Trumbull next Tuesday

USA BMX is holding a free registration event in Trumbull on Tuesday June 4, where those who may be interested in BMX racing can get a sneak peek into what members can expect at their local track, from multiple weekly practices to local, regional and national racing opportunities that are open to all USA BMX members—regardless of age or skill level.

The USA BMX “National Registration Week” registration event will be held from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at Trumbull BMX, Indian Ledge Park Road in Trumbull.

First-timers can borrow a loaner BMX bike and helmet (or bring their own) and take a spin on the track. All participants receive a certificate.
