Joseph R. Vincens, Sr., 87

Joseph R. Vincens, Sr., 87, of Bristol, passed away at home on Thursday, May 30. He was born in New Britain, son of the late Andrew and Lena (Nappi) Vincens.

Joe was the loving husband of the late Patricia (Walston) Vincens whom passed away in 2003. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 2.

Joe began his career as a meat cutter for Walston’s Market, later working for ShopRite and Highland Park Market.

Joe enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. Joe was a man of few words, although if you ever asked “How do you feel?”, his answer was always, “With my hands!”

Joe is survived by his sons Joseph Vincens, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Bristol, Scott Vincens and his wife Elizabeth of Rhode Island, Gary Vincens and his wife Thorley Cook of Massachusetts; daughter Dawn Houle and her husband Gary of Bristol; grandchildren Timothy Vincens and his wife Lauren, Matthew Vincens and his wife Joelle Lenez, Edwin Vincens, Lillian Vincens, Grace Vincens, Lauren Vincens, Sophie Vincens, Mitchell Houle, Thomas Houle, Scott Houle; great-grandchild Eva Vincens; brother Andrew Vincens of Manchester and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and parents, Joseph is predeceased by his sister Roberta Lemire.

A special thank you to Joe’s neighbors Bill Flower and Rich Bianchi for their care and friendship which he valued so much over the years.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 3, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave. Bristol. A funeral home service will be held on Tuesday, June 4, at O’Brien Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Friends and family are welcome starting at 9:30 a.m. A burial and military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
