Local veterans from American Legion Post 2 donated 22 handmade quilts recently to a pet blanket and towel drive being conducted by Bristol State Rep. Cara Pavalock-D’Amato (R-77) through June 12.

Bristol veterans have been involved with several outreaches involving blankets and quilts, according the Neal Supranovich, Post 2 historian.

A number of years ago a Post 2 member’s mother and sister living in Maine began making dog blankets for animal hospitals in that state, Supranovich said. When they learned that once the blankets were soiled, the blankets were then thrown away they started donating the blankets to Post 2.

Through a program in Post 2, working through contacts of Patti Mieiniczuk, dog blankets have been sent to a dog that was at ground zero on 911. Three were sent to dogs in combat areas, four to Service Dogs in Germany and a number stationed in the United States.

A number of dog blankets were donated to MUTTS for Veterans who did not have bedding for their dog. A bag of dog blankets was drop off at Animal Rescue in Plymouth. A number were handed out to local veterans for their dogs, and a few sent to Veterans in Florida.

These 22 were donated to Pavalock-D’Amato’s pet blanket and towel drive, which runs through June 12.

Donation boxes have been set up at Crowley Kia of Bristol, 223 Broad St., and the Law Offices of Cara Pavalock, 440 North Main St. (rear of building).

Items can be dropped off at Kia of Bristol from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The law office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
