One pedestrian was killed and a second injured in a car accident near the intersection of Pine and Emmett streets early Monday morning, according to a release from Bristol Police.

TBE reported mid-morning on Monday that there had been an accident where a witness said one person had been struck. At the time, police were on the scene and the street was closed.

Both pedestrians were transported to area hospitals where one pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. The pedestrians are not being identified at this time, pending next of kin notifications, the report states.

At around 4:30 a.m., police officers were dispatched to a serious crash in the area of Pine Street (Route 72) and Emmett Street involving a vehicle versus two pedestrians, the report states. Upon arrival, officers from the patrol division administered life saving measures until EMS arrived on scene to take over care.

The Bristol Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to further investigate this crash. During this investigation, Route 72 and Emmett Street remained closed. The roadways were reopened around noon.

The initial investigation showed that an eastbound vehicle was traveling on Pine Street and struck the two pedestrians, who appear to have been within the crosswalk area.

The driver was able to stop their vehicle and remained on scene, cooperating with responding police. The driver was not injured.

Any witnesses of this crash is encouraged to contact Officer K. Verillo, 860 584-3031 or KatherineVerillo@BristolCT.gov.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
