Continuing community engagement is high on the list of priorities for Bristol’s new Chief of Police Mark Morello.

“It is an honor and privilege to have been selected as the Chief of Police for the City of Bristol,” Morello said in an email to the Bristol Edition.

“I am very excited to continue my 24-year career here with the Bristol Police Department,” he writes. “My goals include increasing our community engagement.”

Morello specifically mentioned providing “robust” support for mental health and addiction service needs and homelessness and adapting new technologies to keep the community safe and increase efficiency.

In addition, he writes, “I also hope to increase the size of the number of personnel we are allocated to better meet the demands of the city, especially with all the new downtown development that is taking place.”

He thanked all those involved in the hiring process, including the mayor, police commissioners and city council for their confidence in him.

City Council made Morello’s appointment official last night in a special council meeting. Morello has been acting chief since the retirement of former Police Chief Brian Gould in April.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.                Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.                Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
