Tax bills are due July 1–one rate for personal property and real estate, another for vehicles

Tax bills are due July 1, the bills having been mailed on June 28, City Tax Collector, Ann Bednaz, announced recently.

All properties included on the Grand List from Oct. 1, 2023, will receive bills.

The current mill rate is 31.85 per $1,000 of assessment on Real Estate and Personal Property and the Motor Vehicle mill rate is 32.46.

Real Estate and Personal Property bills over $100 are payable in two installments. The first payment is due July 1, and is payable on or before Aug. 1, without interest.

The second payment will be due Jan. 1, 2025, and is payable on or before Feb. 3, 2025, without interest.

All Motor Vehicle bills are due July 1, in one installment payable on or before Aug 1, without interest.

All payments must be received, or USPS postmarked by Aug 1, or they will be considered delinquent. Delinquent payments are subject to an interest charge of 1.5 percent per month starting with the July 1 due date. The minimum calculated interest charge is $2 per Conn. State Statute Sec. 12-146.

The Tax Office is open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tax Office will be closed for the July Fourth holiday. Only payments by check or cash in person are accepted at the counter

Payments may also be made by mail to Tax Collector’s Office, P.O. Box 1040, Bristol, CT 06011-1040. The entire three-part bill and a self-addressed stamped envelope must accompany the payment if a receipt is desired through the U.S. Postal Service

In addition online payments may be made at www.bristolct.gov through the Invoice Cloud online portal.

Online Payment options available will include ACH (check), Visa, Debit, Venmo, Google Pay, Apple Pay and will also include options to receive text message reminders and/or email reminders; just Opt In and register.

Current tax bills that do not have “Back Taxes Also Due” may be paid at any M&T Bank from
July 1 through Aug. 1; a branch does not have to be in Bristol.  Provide the current tax coupon along with payment of Cash or Check at time of payment.

When taxes are not paid in full for each installment by the last day to pay, by state law, it becomes the duty of the collector to proceed with collection enforcement measures, as prescribed by state statute.

It is important to note that failure to receive a bill for any reason will not invalidate the tax and/or the interest penalty per CT State Statute Sec. 12-130.

Any unpaid motor vehicle tax bills after Aug. 1, will be reported to Dept. of Motor Vehicles and may be reported to a collection agency, additional fees may be applied.

Please contact the Assessor’s Office at (860) 584-6240 if you have received a bill for a vehicle that you no longer have and for questions regarding assessments and exemptions.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
