Since 1785, Bristol … Rhode Island has been hosting Fourth of July celebrations. It is the oldest annual Fourth of July celebration in the country.

Americans spare no expense when it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July, collectively spending over $9 billion on food alone.

Independence Day became a federal holiday in 1870.
