2-year-old’s death the result of physical abuse rather than fall as originally indicated

A Bristol Police Criminal Investigation Division report resulted in the death of 2-year-old by physical abuse over a period of time, rather than a fall down a flight of stairs as originally indicated, according to a release from the Bristol Police Dept. yesterday.

On Jan. 1, the Bristol Police responded to a city residence for a call where they found that 2-year old child was reported to have fallen down a flight of stairs and was unresponsive.

Responding officers immediately assessed the child and performed CPR. Bristol EMS arrived on scene and transported the child to the Bristol Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

At that time, responding officers noticed a significant amount of abnormal injuries on the child while performing CPR. The Bristol Police Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene and began an investigation.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the child did not fall down a flight of stairs but was instead the victim of physical abuse over a period of time, ultimately resulting in the death of the child.

On July 8, Alyjah Almodovar, date of birth Oct. 4, 2002, was arrested by warrant for risk of injury to a child, and intentional cruelty to persons. She was held on a court-set $100,000 bond.

On Jul 12, Luis Dejesus, date of birth Nov. 14, 1999, was arrested by warrant for manslaughter in the 1st degree, assault in the 2nd degree, risk of injury to a child, intentional cruelty to persons and false statement. He was held on a court-set $1,000,000 bond.

At the time of this warrant arrest, Dejesus was already in the custody of the Department of Corrections on charges stemming from another Bristol Police investigation. Those offenses include illegal firearms and narcotics possession.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
