Bristol Legion season comes to an end at the hands of familiar opponent Ridgefield in 5-0 shutout loss Thursday night

Baseball

Bristol’s American Legion team picked a bad time for their bats to go silent, as Ridgefield defeated the home team 5-0 Thursday night at Muzzy Field. It was Bristol’s fourth game against Ridgefield in less than a week, and both of their losses in the state tournament were to the Ridgefield nine.

In 14 innings of the state tournament, Ridgefield pitchers held Bristol to a single run. On Thursday, the offense could only muster three scattered singles and never really threatened to score throughout the night.

Ryan Maglio did everything he could to keep Bristol in the game, pitching five and two-thirds innings of two-hit ball and allowing only one earned run. Maglio struck out five, but he did issue six walks, which drove up his pitch count.

Bristol trailed by only two going into the seventh, but Ridgefield put the game away with three runs in the top of the inning.

The loss ends Bristol’s run in the state tournament, while Ridgefield advances to the next round being played in Middletown and South Windsor.

Bristol enjoyed an explosion of offense in a 10-game winning streak leading up to the tournament, scoring eight to 10 runs in almost every win. But that type of production ended at the beginning of the states, and Bristol’s pitchers were facing long odds throughout.

All TBE readers, supporters and donors

The Bristol Edition will be limiting the number of stories non-members and free readers may access each week. This decision is based on our financial projections and, most certainly, to remind people that TBE is serious about providing accurate, timely and thorough reporting for Bristol. To do this we have devised a financial support structure that makes unlimited access extremely affordable, beginning with a $6 monthly donation.

  • Non-members will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Free readers and people who have subscribed by email will be able to access four (4) articles per week.
  • Donors and financial supporters will have unlimited access as long as they log in.

Note: Donors may have to contact TBE if they find they are being limited, since we will need to set up a membership account for you. Email editor@bristoledition.org for instructions. Sorry for any inconvenience. People with financial difficulties may write editor@bristoledition.org to be considered for free access.
