Bristol Farmers Market celebrates National Farmers Market Week
Under its new nonprofit designation, with a board of directors and its community volunteers, the Bristol Farmers Market is celebrating National Farmers Market Week from Aug. 4 to 10, by reminding the community of the vital role farmers markets play with the nation’s local food systems.
For 50 years, the Farmers Market Coalition has sponsored the national celebration by drawing attention to the way these markets have influenced the way Americans eat, shop and connect their food, their famers and one another, the release announcing the celebration from the local farmers market states.
The Bristol Farmers Market currently hosts four main farms: Gresczyk Farms, Twin Pines Farm, Tonn’s Marketplace, and Hathor Hill Farm selling a wide variety of products, including fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, flowers, pickles, seasonal garden plants, and beef. In addition to the four main farm vendors there are a variety of other vendors ranging from organic soaps and candles to bakery and bread, maple syrup and maple sugar treats, hemp, organic snacks, craft spirits, and beer.
Community support is integral to the success of these markets, the release states, and encourages people who have not stopped by to do so this Saturday.
In Bristol, more than 20 vendors have booths at the local market every week on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 pm at 10 Main St. through Nov. 2.
In addition to SNAP/EBT, eligible Bristol Farmers Market vendors accept WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition vouchers.

Bristol Historical Society to feature Sessions family at Third Thursday program, Aug. 15
The Bristol Historical Society’s Third Thursday program, “A Session with Sessions Trunk,” from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 15, will feature the Sessions family of Bristol, from family photos to the construction of the J. H. Sessions & Son factory on Riverside Avenue and the building of the Albert Sessions House on Bellevue Avenue.
Presenter Bob Adamczyk will lead participants through a treasure trove of photos that have not been shared in decades as well as cover some history of the Sessions family.
A program on the 1944 Hartford Circus Fire and the monthly gaming club meeting are on the events calendar for July at the Bristol Historical Society.
The program is free to members. For nonmembers, there is a suggested donation of $5. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be reserved.

American Clock & Watch Museum’s ‘Wine, Women and Watches’ tickets on sale
‘Wine, Women and Watches,” a fundraise to benefit the American Clock & Watch Museum has announced this year’s event will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the museum. NAACP’s Annual Freedom Fund Banquet tickets on sale
The West Hartford Chief of Police Vernon Reddick and recently retired Bristol Chief of Police Brian Gould will be keynote speaker and honoree, respectively, at this year’s Greater Bristol chapter of the NAACP’s Annual Freedom Fund Banquet.
The theme of this year’s event is “Preparing Challenges,” and the event will be held Friday, Oct. 25, at Testa’s Banquet Facility in Southington, with social beginning at 6 p.m. and the banquet, at 7 p.m. Tickets are for adults, $85, and for youth, $50.

Wheeler sets date for 39th Annual Golf Classic
Wheeler’s 39th Annual Golf Classic will take place at The Country Club of Farmington on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Registration is open, and sponsors, players and prize donors are invited to join those who have already signed up.
Proceeds will benefit Wheeler’s Basic Needs fund, which his 100 percent donor supported and has served more than 8,500 patients, according to the release.

Wheeler schedules Wednesdays for Mobile Family Health & Wellness Center visits in Bristol
The new Wheeler Mobile Family Health & Wellness Center, equipped with a private exam room, reception area and lift system, will be available at two locations in Bristol on Wednesdays this spring.
Agape House, on 43 School St., from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. will be the location for the mobile center Wednesday mornings.
Brian’s Angels, 99 Summer St., from 12:45 to 3 p.m. will be the location for the center Wednesday afternoons.
The Mobile Family Health & Wellness Center is licensed for care through the Connecticut Department of Public Health and in scope of Wheeler’s federally qualified health centers in Bristol, Hartford, New Britain, Plainville, and Waterbury. It has been in use for community education events since June 2022.
Bristol Veterans Council continues to raise funds for POW/MIA monument
The Bristol Veterans Council continues to raise funds for a POW/MIA monument as part of contingency in the event that monument needs to be repaired or maintained beyond its agreement with Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services.
The six-foot high, 10-inch thick and three-feet wide gray granite monument honors each branch of the military. It was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 27, this year in ceremonies on Memorial Boulevard.
