Popplio, August Community Day Pokemon, offers new opportunities

Hello Trainers!

August is now here! With these new upcoming events, get ready to stock up on some items, August will set summer ablaze.

This upcoming community day is a fan favorite. Pokémon GO’s August Community Day Pokémon is Popplio! During this day, Trainers a have an opportunity to evolve to at Primarina that knows the Water type charged attack Hydro Cannon. It’s also been revealed that Primarina will be able to learn Sparkling Aria from the beginning of this Community Day event. It will be appearing more frequently in the wild. If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!

Complete event-themed field research rewarding encounters with Popplio, Pokéballs, Stardust and more. The next Community Day will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, between 2 and 5 p.m. in each Trainer’s local time zone. The headliner will be Popplio, the Sea Lion Pokémon from the Alolan region.

Just a reminder for the raids, here are Pokémon and the times for each listed below, along with their locations:

The Pokémon GO World Championships just ended. The Pokémon World Championships isn’t just a both a gathering for all the best competitive Pokémon players across the globe, but also a pseudo–Pokémon Presents showcase to talk about the future of the franchise.

The event was held in Hawaii this year, so its closing ceremony took place late at night for many people around the globe. They dropped two features that will change the game on how battles are done.

Pokémon Go got two announcements during the closing ceremony, but one was easily the bigger deal. Developer Niantic teased that Dynamaxing, the battle gimmick from Pokémon Sworld and Shield, is finally coming to Pokémon Go.

These temporary transformations allow Pokémon to grow like a Godzilla, with some getting original forms called Gigantamax that are distinct from a typical Dynamax form. The feature was teased with a live-action trailer showing what appears to be a Dynamax Pokémon descending upon a beach. Tune in and watch all the action beginning at 9 a.m. each day!

Also, during the Pokémon Go segment, Niantic revealed Morpeko, the Galar region’s Pikachu clone, is coming to the app “soon.” Pokémon Go still hasn’t fully rolled out Generation VIII’s Pokédex, though it has sporadically released critters from the Sword and Shield games over the years. Hopefully Dynamax and Morpeko are signs that more are on the way.

Finally, the Global Challenges will take place throughout the Triumph Together event! Work with Trainers around the world to complete them and unlock bonuses for all to enjoy! Once a challenge is completed, special bonuses and Timed Research will be unlocked for the remainder of the event and the next Global Challenge will begin.

Make sure to play during the event to complete the Timed Research and collect the rewards! The event starts Friday, Aug. 23, at 3 p.m. to Friday, Aug. 30, at 11:59 p.m. Each challenge is specific to your team. Read on to find your team challenge.

Valor Global Challenge: Defeat 75,000,000 Team GO Rocket members.

Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons.

Valor Global Challenge Rewards will unlock when the Valor Global Challenge is completed.

A special Team Valor–themed Timed Research opportunity that leads to an encounter with Ponyta wearing a Candela-themed accessory, 2× XP for spinning PokéStops.

Instinct Global Challenge: Hatch 20,000,000 Eggs. The bonus during this event is that your eggs have half Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed into Incubators. Additionally, the following Pokémon will hatch from 7 km Eggs: ( “*”means they can be shiny.)

  • Grimer wearing a party hat*
  • Slugma*
  • Slakoth wearing a visor*
  • Litleo*
  • Komala*
  • Togedemaru*

The following bonuses will unlock when the Instinct Global Challenge is completed:

A special Team Instinct–themed Timed Research opportunity that leads to an encounter with Elekid wearing a Spark-themed accessory*, 2× Stardust for hatching Eggs.

Mystic Global Challenge: Complete 35,000,000 Field Research tasks.
